Envelope air sealing

Advanced Building Envelope Air Sealing Solutions

Adtech delivers advanced building envelope air sealing solutions using Aeroseal® AeroBarrier technology — helping residential, commercial, and industrial buildings improve energy efficiency, indoor comfort, air tightness, and overall building performance.

Envelope Air Sealing

What is Building Envelope Air Sealing?

A building envelope includes the walls, roof, windows, doors, floors, and structural connections that separate indoor spaces from the outside environment.

Even modern buildings can have hidden gaps and leakage points throughout the building envelope that allow unwanted air infiltration and conditioned air loss. These invisible leaks can reduce energy efficiency, impact indoor comfort, increase HVAC load, and compromise overall building performance.

Adtech provides advanced building envelope air sealing solutions powered by Aeroseal® AeroBarrier technology to help create tighter, more energy-efficient, and better-performing buildings.

The Process

How our automated air sealing process Works

Adtech uses advanced AeroBarrier® technology to identify and seal hidden building envelope leakage points through an automated aerosol-based sealing process with real-time diagnostics and measurable performance verification.

The system precisely targets uncontrolled air leakage throughout the building envelope without invasive construction or manual sealing limitations. This technology-driven approach helps improve airtightness, reduce HVAC energy losses, and support higher-performing, more energy-efficient buildings.

1. Prepare & Pressurize the Building

The building is prepared for the sealing process, and specialized equipment is installed to safely pressurize the space. This controlled environment allows leakage pathways throughout the building envelope to be identified and measured.

2. Measure Existing Air Leakage

The AeroBarrier® system establishes the building’s initial air leakage rate and continuously monitors performance throughout the process. This provides a measurable baseline and real-time visibility into sealing progress.

3. Automatically Seal Hidden Leaks

A safe, water-based sealing mist is introduced into the pressurized space. As air escapes through leakage points, microscopic particles are carried to the leaks and accumulate until the openings are sealed.

4. Verify & Certify Results

The system continuously tracks airtightness improvements during application and provides final performance verification upon completion. Detailed reporting helps confirm that the required airtightness targets have been achieved.

FAQs

What is Building Envelope Air Sealing?
Building envelope air sealing is the process of sealing unintended air leakage pathways throughout a building’s exterior shell, including gaps around walls, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, and structural penetrations. This helps improve energy efficiency, indoor comfort, and overall building performance.
What is AeroBarrier®?
AeroBarrier® is an advanced air sealing technology that automatically identifies and seals air leakage throughout a building envelope from the inside. The process enables buildings to achieve targeted airtightness levels quickly, accurately, and with measurable results.
How does AeroBarrier® work?

During the process, a safe, water-based sealing mist is introduced into the building while the space is pressurized. As air escapes through leaks, microscopic particles are drawn to the leakage points and accumulate until the gaps are sealed. Real-time monitoring provides continuous measurement and verification throughout the process.

What are the benefits of building envelope air sealing?

Air sealing can help:

  • Reduce energy consumption
  • Improve indoor comfort
  • Enhance HVAC efficiency
  • Minimize drafts and unwanted air infiltration
  • Improve indoor air quality
  • Support sustainability and green building objectives
Can AeroBarrier® be used in occupied buildings?
AeroBarrier® is most commonly applied during new construction or major renovation projects before final occupancy. This allows the building envelope to be sealed efficiently while meeting project airtightness requirements.
Is the Sealant Safe?
The aeroseal sealant itself consists of a vinyl acetate polymer. Its ingredients are those commonly found in hairspray and chewing gum. In other words, yes, it is very safe. It’s nontoxic (As certified by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and it is UL approved. Most telling however, is that aeroseal has been used at some of today’s most prestigious medical facilities – from the Mayo Clinic to Nemours Children’s Hospital. Day-to-day operations at these facilities often remained virtually uninterrupted during its application. It doesn’t get much safer than that.
How much air leakage can AeroBarrier® reduce?

Results vary by building type and existing leakage conditions, but AeroBarrier® has demonstrated the ability to significantly reduce building envelope leakage and help projects achieve demanding airtightness targets.

How does building envelope air sealing improve energy efficiency?

When uncontrolled air leakage is reduced, conditioned air remains inside the building more effectively. This lowers heating and cooling loads, reduces HVAC energy consumption, and helps maintain more consistent indoor temperatures.
